This necklace has a 22 inch long leather cord and a woven cotton embroidered heart pendant mounted on an aluminum casing.
Heart pendant made on a belt loom by women in the San Andrés Larrainzar region in the state of Chiapas, Mexico.🌵
🔸EACH OF THESE NECKLACES IS DIFFERENT. THEY ARE SUBJECT TO THE IMAGINATION AND THE MOMENTUM OF THE CRAFTSMAN AT THE TIME OF CREATION. THE COLOR COMBINATIONS AND THE PATTERNS THAT ORNATE IT ARE ALWAYS VARIABLE.🔸
This piece is perfect for those who love to wear unique pieces full of originality and history. The designs on these loom fabrics are unique to this region.
The artisans use only natural fibers and dyes to make the threads. In the past, they only used the colors red, black, green, yellow, blue and purple. Today, they use a wider variety of colors to add modernity.
These embroideries represent the sky, the earth and frogs. The latter, “Señor Rana”, as they call her, is considered the right hand of all the gods.

💙 THE SAN ANDRÉS LARRAINZAR HEART PENDANT
The belt loom is a very old technique used by Mesoamerican cultures. Today, artisans continue to use this technique to make some of the pieces they use for their clothing as well as items and accessories for the home. This technique used in some communities of Oaxaca and Chiapas consists of intertwining threads of any type of fiber on a wooden loom, attaching them to a pole or tree on one side and to the artisan's waist on the other; and interconnecting other threads perpendicularly with sticks to give the finish to the weft of the fabric. The elaboration of a 14" X 14" square is a slow process that can take 6 to 8 hours to complete!
Unfortunately, these ancestral techniques have been reproduced with machines, removing the human element, in such a way that their production is greater in less time. Naturally, this has repercussions on the original producers, creators of these crafts, since it is impossible to compete with the prices generated by cheap production.
